Nevada- Race/Ethnicity Maps

The first image is of the total white population. The counties that have the highest percentages are Esmeralda County (Southwest) with 96.99%, Eureka County (Center) with 94.73%, and Douglas County (West) with 86.72%. Something to note is that Douglas County also has one of the highest incomes per household. From this we can deduce that the white individuals within Douglas County tend to have a larger income. According to Realtor.com, the median sold home price is about $710,000.

Image 2 shows the Black and African American population by percentage. Clark county, White Pine County, and Lincoln County have the highest percentage of Black and African American populations, with 11.92%, 6.47%, and 4.37%, respectively. All these counties are on the eastern to southeastern border of Nevada, and touch either Utah or Nevada. These percentages are a bit lower than the national average taken by the US census which is about 13%. It is understandable that Clark County would have a large African American population, because of the sheer amount of people that live in the county. Just as a reminder there are about 2.2 million. In comparison White Pine County has about 10,000 inhabitants, and Lincoln County has around 5,000. Clark county also happens to be one of the poorest counties, which lines up with the fact that a considerable sum of African Americans issues deal with systemic issues which tend to fight against them. Clark County also happens to be one of the richest areas because of the attention it gathers from Las Vegas.

The last image has information about the change in the Black/African American population. This can be attributed to a variety of factors, whether that be birth rates, migration, or the change is what a person considers themself. Clark county has an increase of over 80,000 individuals. Washoe County increased by about 2,500, and lastly Nye County increased by about 700 individuals. The reason Clark County increased so drastically in African American populations is because of there are a significantly high Black population, similarly to compound interest. The population will increase more steeply with every generation.

I believe you bring up some good points when relating to the factors that go into a specific population, in this instance, Blacks, which is increasing in their overall population. It is also interesting to see the voting pattern for specific counties, such as Washoe and Clark, and can be explained with large voting groups such as Blacks and those more income disadvantaged. I also wondered about the Realtor.com price rate for the location, and I wondered if this has to do with the amount of land/homes available versus the supply and demand of the houses. This direction would be interesting as they are located directly on the border to Carson City and not that far from Reno and significant California metropolitan areas.
